In addition to our regularly scheduled classes, we can also tailor private or group instruction to meet your specific needs, including security guard training.
Facility and Ranges
We have an air-conditioned classroom, two handgun ranges, one rimfire rifle range, two centerfire rifle ranges, and a tactical shotgun range. Two of our ranges have concrete tables with covered firing line, and three ranges have running and pop-up targets. We also have a small lake stocked with bass, bream, and channel catfish.
We are located at the intersection of I-20 and Hwy 501 at Forest, MS, which is 45 miles from Jackson to the west and Meridian to the east. Forest has four motels, several restaurants and fast-foods, and a public airport within two to four miles of our location. We are ten miles from Roosevelt State Park, 20 miles from Yogi Bear RV Park, and 60 miles from the Silver Star and Golden Moon Casinos at Choctaw, MS.
This shooting facility is named for General William Tecumseh Sherman. In February of 1864, during the American Civil War, General Sherman led 20,000 infantry and cavalry across central Mississippi from Vicksburg to Meridian, then back to Vicksburg. His goal was to destroy the deep South's ability and desire to continue the war by ravaging every thing in his path and by taking every thing that could be used by his soldiers. This he did, unopposed by General Leonidas Polk, commander of 10,000 Confederate infantry and cavalry, who retired to Selma, Alabama without firing an infantry rifle at the Union forces.
General Sherman also used this same tactic during his famous March To The Sea across Georgia and up the eastern seaboard. Thus did General Sherman become the most hated Union general by the South during the Civil War.
As a young boy I climbed a hill just south of this facility named Sherman Hill for the Yankees who camped there during Sherman's infamous Mississippi march. And, I found a Union Zouave sword bayonet just north of these ranges. To Georgia's credit, they used Sherman's notoriety as the basis for a movie (Gone With The Wind) and a song (Tara's Theme). Mississippi got only this shooting facility. Come shoot with us on one of the most historical sites in Mississippi.
